Sad News

I know I've been slacking. My house was broken into last week so I've been dealing with insurance and picking out a new front door.

I'm also in IL this week and next. The client's year end is 9/30 so I'm in another busy season.

I think that's it for now.

Needles

I've heard a lot of talk about the Denise Interchangeable Needles over the past year. Mostly on Ravelry. Sorry Denise, Addy stole my heart.

In the Knitch Fall Newsletter, they wrote about these.

Yes, I am in love and I must acquire them at any cost. I don't have interchangeable needles but I think they will be very benificial.

Also, I'm going to see Wicked this week. Aren't you jealous :)

A FO!

I decided just to push through, and even though it's not perfect I like it!

Pattern: Box Bag (see post below)
Fabric: 2 Quarter Flats from JoAnn
Mods: Didn't use any interfacing, I think I bought the wrong kind.

Sewing

I've decided to take a stab at the sewing machine. I got mom's when they moved and it's probably as old as I am. It's a Kenmore 6 Stitch. I had to buy the manual, nobody has free downloads of any sewing machine manual. That might be because you NEED the manual to adjust stitches. Here is the cover of mine...

I really wanted a box bag for my knitting, my current bag is great but it's big. I want something smaller for my sock projects. Enter this pattern. It probably took me 6 hours yesterday and I'm still not done. My problem is I am not getting even stitches on the machine. I think it's because my bobbin is not threaded evenly. If that doesnt work, I have no idea what to try next. I'll take pics when I find my camera.

I am late on my dkKnits sock swap too. I'm still knitting. So I'd like to make a bag for my girl to make up for my tardyness. That is if I can get my stitches right....

Summer Games

I'm in the dkKnits sock club, where she dyes each member's yarn on your specific interests. She put together her own version of Olympic Games (nothing to do with the Ravelympics).

My favorite so far has been Hibernation Hurdles, where I sumbitted this picture:

All of my hibernating WIPS :)

I'll post more after work!

Look at those waves!

We went white water rafting last weekend. I think we were on the water for 4 hours, it was so much fun! I didn't fall out either.

It's August???

Ahh, the weekend. I can't believe it's August already. Where has the summer gone?

I just got back from The Windy City, Chicago. It was my first time up there and we had a good time (me and my co-worker). I'm in town for 2 weeks, then I head back to Chattanooga, TN and Middle of Nowhere, AL. Oh, and throw in studying for the CPA and having to knit for a sock swap...

I still have the yucky yellow bathroom walls. That might have to wait until Dec. when I have more time. I have the color picked out, paint brushes bought, and putty knife ready to go.

This weekend is our sales tax holiday so I'm going to get new pants for work. I hate buying the larger size, but I'm desperate. Must go to gym more.

Diego

One of my favorite pictures. I love him so much and hate to be gone for more then a few days. He's my 18.5 pound baby :)

MIA

Yes, I know I have been missing a while. There is really no reason for it though, just havent gotten around to blogging (although I have been reading your blogs regularly).

I'm traveling more with work now, to Illinois, Alabama and Tennessee. I'll be out of town the next 2 weeks to do walkthroughs. I went up to IL a couple weeks ago for an inventory. That was pretty cool since the client is a manufacturer of metal items - I got to see the foundry where they melt brass. Here's a pic from IL:

Yes, a whole lot of nothing.

Then I broke my deadbolt on my front door. I put the key in and it got stuck, so when I pulled it out it pulled out the core of the lock. And of course the back door deadbolt was broken (couldn't get in from the outside). I was locked out for about an hour before I was able to get the core back in
just so to get it to unlock. It was a Sunday night so I had to wait until after work on Monday to go to Lowe's and buy new deadbolts. And I replaced it myself :)

I had to frog JP's sock because it was just too small. She could get it on, but it would be better a little bigger. I have pics of that too:

Fun times. I also have pictures of my two Eye of Partridge heels. One was slipped knit-wise, the other purl-wise. But that will be next time!

40 is a Great Number

Because when you are working 55-60 hours for 3 months 40 hours sounds like no work at all. I don't know what I'm going to do after work now! I do want to sign up for kickboxing classes again, since Jazzercise doesnt fit into the schedule anymore.

I have progress on the Cable-Twist socks, that's what I've been working on exclusively. I want to pick up the SotSii again soon too. I like the finished product. Not sure what I'm going to do next. Probably mom's mother's day gift. I don't think she reads this, but just incase... no more detail here.

A FO!

No post last weekend because I finished my first socks!

Pattern: Lattice Stitch in More Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch
Yarn: Zitron Trekking XXL - 100
Mods: I did a yarn over short row heel and the asymmetrical toe because I have pointy toes. Also I cast on 72 per the book, but as you can see on my right sock cuff, that was too many. No wonder it took so long to finish.

Last night I cast on Cable Twist Socks (Ravelry Link). No pictures here since the recipient might read this blog. But I am extremely happy with the pattern and yarn combination. It's going quick too. I'm planning on an Eye of Partridge heel flap (like Grumperina's) but we'll see when I get there.

Weekend WIPs

I've decided to start with a theme on set days to help me post more. So weekends will now feature WIPs (work in progress)
.

I am almost done with my First Socks. I have about 15 more rounds, then I start the toe decrease. The heel on the second sock went a lot better then the first. No frogging, no big holes. But somehow on the first sock I added 5 rows on the heel. Heh, I guess that's what first socks are for.

Also I got this in the mail last week:

"It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown" sock kit from Woolgirl (see side button). Her kits are so cute! She is by far my favorite person to buy yarn from. I had JP pick pick out some yarn so I can make her a pair of socks.... and this is what I got:

Hehe....

The Meme Phenomenom...

I don't get it, but I'll do it.

THE RULES
1. Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Post THE RULES on your blog.
3. Post 7 weird or random facts about yourself on your blog.
4. Tag 7 people and link them.
5. Comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged.

My life in general is weird and random, but I'll try to come up with stuff you don't know.

1. I count stairs as I go up and down them.
2. Diego is named for the sabertooth tiger in Ice Age. I have not seen Ice Age 2.
3. I like white wine more then red wine.
4. I have every rose that Michael has ever given me in a vase (just the heads).
5. I still have a bump on my leg when I jumped off the lifeguard stand and landed on the wall.
6. I used to play the piano in middle school and thought I was really cool cuz I could play "A Whole New World" from Aladin.
7. I am a horrible liar, but I can refrain from telling the truth so no one notices.

I think everyone I would tag has already done it.

And more work....

I'm sleepy today. I had to work Sat 9 to 6 and Sunday 11 to 6:30. Plus it's about 45 degrees in the audit room. I think they do that on purpose.... I got my Chewy Spaghetti Blue Plate Special sock club kit in! Amazing package! I'll put a picture up later. I just wanted to complain a little bit.

Where I Earn My Keep

So this is the time of year where I earn my keep as an Auditor. We worked until 10 each night this week, Friday until 5, Sat 8:30-5.... And I brought work home. I am exhausted. There was a birthday in there somewhere.

No progess on the SotSii. 5 rounds on the sock. Oh well. I did get money from my parents to pay for my new tires on my car. I love them. I can actually drive the speed limit in the rain again. I also got money from Michael to pay for half the GPS I wanted. It's the Tom Tom 720. Supposedly you can program to recognize your voice so you can say the address of your destination.

The January Pick Up Sticks sock kit is one of my favorites. It's all shades of purple!

I was thisclose to not signing up again too. Feb is still up in the air.

Secret of the Stole II

Thought I would update the picture to show my progress. I hate working late at night because I don't have time to work on anything... I guess only 2 more weeks on this client, then it should be a little calmer through March.

Up to row 35. Lightly stretched it's 18*15*5. I think it's a good size so far, not sure about blocking though. I didn't swatch....

Snow Days

Finally we have snow in Atlanta! It snowed on Wed. but I was in Macon (where it just rained) so it didn't count then.

And it's still snowing. So I'm working on the Secret of the Stole II, clue 1. It's my first lace project, so of course I'm using fingering weight yarn. I'm about 13 rows in, out of 104.... But I LOVE the yarn. It's Bristol Yarn Gallery Buckingham, an 80% baby alpaca 20% silk. The color is a light plum.

Also got my yarn winder and swift in the mail this week. I might wind something just because I can....

Besides knitting, I am going to actually wipe down the kitchen so I can put dishes away. Me and Michael hang out on Sat nights, but with the snow and the temp still dropping, I hope he can make it over here.

Clubs

I love sock clubs. I especially love the WoolGirl sock club and kits. I received my "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown" sock kit this week. Besides the yarn, pattern, and stitchmarker, she sends us chocolate, a cute notecard, and a handmade pouch to carry the WIP with you. Of course I signed up for the Easter kit too. Here are the lovely pics.

The Kit

The Yarn

The Bag

I can't really tell what the pattern looks like on the photo though. I'll have to wait until people post FOs on Ravelry.

Oh, and on the house front.... Nothing is cleaned and nothing is put away :)

2008

It's hard to believe it's January again. I haven't thought about any resolutions for this year. Maybe to save more money....

I close on my house tomorrow, and I'm excited but scared at the same time. Big commitment! But I love it and I can stay there for a while (i.e. if I get married and have a kid).

In knitterly news, I have an inch done on the second sock. I want to finish before I start my next sock, which is BMFA Socks that Rock in January One:

I'm not sure of the pattern yet though. But I want to keep it top-down. I'm thinking Hedra from Knitty. We'll see!
